Land of Royals – History

Often referred as the Pink City, it was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II with the name – Jainagara. The construction work of this city was initiated in mid-1720s with laying down of the foundation stone in 1727. Before the establishment of this place, Amber was the capital of his empire; later Jaipur became the seat of his kingdom in 1733. The architectural foundation of this city has a deep influence of the ancient grid pattern type, prevalent thousands of years ago among Hindus.

Influence of Ancient Architecture

The city was planned by an eminent Brahmin scholar, named Vidyadhar. He had been educated on architecture and planning of a town according to the ancient architectural style. Most of his education was based on silpa-sutras, which were essentially training manuals in Sanskrit. He put all his knowledge in the construction of Jaipur, which has now become a major spot for architecture-lovers as well tourists. Jaipur holidays can well be one of the best ways to witness some of the mesmerizing architectural marvels from the bygone age.
